TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Whether you’re a resident or business owner, living in the United States
Virgin Islands (U.S.V.I.) consists of jaw-dropping views, year-round
tropical weather and 38 cents per kilowatt-hour, the highest price of
any U.S. state, island or territory.
“At the end of the day, there’s no getting around the fact that the
electricity cost here in the Virgin Islands is about .38kWh. As a
result, our new lighting fixtures provide a 12 month payback or 100% ROI
on an annual basis”
Michael Bruno, a five-year resident and owner of Electricity Wise
Strategies, and Renee M. D’Adamo, owner of RMD Architecture, know
first-hand of the concerns the people of U.S.V.I. have when it comes
dealing with high energy costs and usage.
“Alarming is an understatement,” says Bruno. “No matter how large or
minute a project is, it’s always a factor that weighs heavily on the
property owner, and ultimately has a trickledown effect that spreads
throughout.”
Primary Care, PLLC is a privately owned and operated family practice
that was established in 1986, when Dr. Arakere B. Prasad decided to make
the island of St. Croix his permanent home. Primary Care, PLLC is one of
the few facilities on St. Croix that offers same-day services
(appointments are on a limited basis) to those who require immediate
medical attention. Along with Dr. Prasad, the staff includes two front
office clerks, two billing clerks, two nurses, two nurse practitioners
and an office manager that ensure a constant patient flow.
Expanding on his success and need of space, Dr. Prasad purchased an
office supply space that he envisioned as the new location of his
medical practice. Looking to stay within his project budget, Dr.
Prasad’s decision to work with Bruno and D’Adamo was an easy one.
“This project was a complete gut of an office supply company, and the
owners sold the building to the doctor,” said Bruno. “The exterior of
the project was just as important as the interior elements, which
included an incoming patient waiting room, front office and a number of
private doctor/patient examining rooms. Because I was working so closely
with the new owners and the architect (D’Adamo), I recommended the
greater part of the project to include enLux DL1 3500°K down light
fixtures.”
As patients enter the facility, they encounter an earth-toned inspired
motif that is calming and inviting. Featured behind the beige marble
topped desk is a decorative stone display that covers the reception
area’s main wall, and continues into the seating area. White colored
walls with wood trim accent the doorways throughout the facility.
Using enLux's patent pending RYgB light emission technology, the
company’s low-energy, high-illumination DL-1 TC Down Light provides
superior color light in warm 2700°K, neutral 3500°K or cool 4500°K, or
any custom CCT. Light colors include red, amber, green and blue, with
custom colors within CIE 1931 chromaticity. The DL-1 Series LED down
light can save more than 85 percent in energy use compared to
incandescent lighting. It exceeds industry lighting performance
standards, while requiring very low power, and has a 50,000 hour life.
The DL-1 Series has received two UL listings - UL1993 for the down light
with E26 or GU24 connection, and UL1598 for the down light with junction
box, hard wire connection. The enLux DL-1 TC Down Light is an Energy
Star product.
Completing the interior lighting scheme, R30 eyeball fixtures are
employed, and up/down surface mounted exterior fixtures add an
interesting architectural element to the building’s façade. The enLux
R30F is an 80 degree beam floodlight that uses only 14W, and is dimmable
with most standard commercial and residential dimmers. Thirty R30s
replaced 75W incandescent floodlights, a 100-200W colored incandescent
floodlight, and 26W CFLs with comparable light output.
An enLux companion luminaire, the R30W, is a 160 degree beam wide
floodlight drop-in replacement for a 75W incandescent floodlight and a
200W incandescent color floodlight. The R30F and R30W are available in
120V, 220V and 277V white or color light like the R30F; the R30W is also
dimmable.
“At the end of the day, there’s no getting around the fact that the
electricity cost here in the Virgin Islands is about .38kWh. As a
result, our new lighting fixtures provide a 12 month payback or 100% ROI
on an annual basis,” said Bruno.
Many quality comments about the lighting quality have been received by
the staff of Primary Care, PLLC. According to Bruno and D’Adamo, as a
result of the Primary Care, PLLC project, other doctors' offices have
looked at Dr. Prasad’s new office in a “different light” and have
removed their old lighting sources in exchange for enLux LED Lighting
sources.
All enLux LED products are environmentally friendly and ‘green,’ 100
percent recyclable and contain no toxic gases or hazardous materials,
meeting compliance with California Title 22 and 24.
U.S. Virgin Islands Employ ALSI LED Lighting Technology
The Government Employees’ Retirement System of the U.S. Virgin Islands, on St. Croix, recently approved an upgrade to Solid-State light emitting diode (LED) Lighting for their new facility, currently under construction.
This marks the island’s first government building to fully deploy this type of lighting technology throughout the entire facility. Electricity Wise Strategies (EWS) is the company that engineered and supplied the luminaire retrofit.
Michael Bruno, owner of EWS said, “Ninety-five percent of the components in the luminaires being installed are USA-made products. Because of the high quality of the products used in this project, lighting maintenance will be practically eliminated over the next ten years or longer.”
We employed only the finest Solid-State LED products available from our exclusive resources,” Bruno continued. “This project will set a pattern for other U.S. Virgin Islands projects to follow.”
Jim Wassel, founder and chief science officer of Appalachian Lighting Systems, Inc (ALSI) added, “The ALLED™ brand luminarie from Appalachian Lighting Systems, Inc. will be used on the exterior of the new building. This will make an immediate impression during the day as people notice the quality of the fixtures, and by night, as they notice the high quality light, despite the low wattage.”
